In the Year of the Horse, ICAHM has chosen Jishou, China as the location of the 2014 Annual Conference, titled "Universal Standards for Archaeological Heritage Management". The goal of this meeting is to both showcase exemplary case studies of heritage management and develop a comprehensive set of standards for building these practices into future nomination dossiers and management plans.

Jishou City, the capital of Tujia and Miao Nationalities Autonomous Prefecture of Western Hunan, is centrally located within China, and close to both the major city of Chengdu and the world famous Zhangjiajie National Forest Park. Jishou University, the hosting institution, invited ICAHM to hold the Annual Conference here in order to engage the global community in conversations about the preservation of tangible and intangible cultures undertaken as a part of China's major heritage initiatives. While there will be considerable focus on Chinese case studies, the scope of this meeting is international, and we welcome scholars and topics from around the globe.

Other focal points of the 2014 Annual Conference will be the integration of research along the Silk Road from the Roman Limes to the Great Wall; the application of aerial and satellite remote sensing to archaeological research and heritage management; representation and preservation of minority cultures; and new finds at the Laosicheng archaeological site in Yongshun County, Hunan. For more information on the highlighted conference themes, please view the Abstract Submission page.

ICAHM's Paper and Poster Selection Committee (fully independent of the Organizers) will choose the talks and posters to be presented, seeking a balance in geographical and thematic coverage. Proposals to speak about disputes already resolved or having received extended treatment will not be accepted. Rather, ICAHM seeks fresh perspectives on emergent problems of interest to the worldwide public attending this annual meeting and representing the global range of countries. ICAHM will publish selected papers from this annual meeting in its publication series with Springer Press, "Multidisciplinary Perspectives in Archaeological Heritage Management".

ICAHM sincerely and warmly thanks ICOMOS China and Jishou University as our co-sponsors for this event. Special thanks to Dr. TANG Zijun for his tireless efforts to make this conference possible.
